CNTraveler asked me to pen a piece about the Top 5 Dishes I’ve Eaten In My Travels…so here it is, live on their blog. Lists like these are always arbitrary, though the arbitrary nature of it can still be revealing. Clearly, from this list, I prefer rustic, “real” food to finer, fancier fare. But maybe you knew that already.
My Google Talk
Back in October, I visited Google Headquarters in Mountainview, California to deliver a Google Talk. You may recall the lunch that I ate while I was there? Now the video of the talk is online and I have to say, it’s hard for me to watch–sort of like listening to your own voice on a tape recorder. But I’m thinking you loyal readers may get a kick out of hearing me tell the story of my blog, talking about writing the cookbook, sharing the 10 over-arching lessons I learned cooking with America’s best chefs, and seeing me model my very first (and maybe my last) bow-tie. Thanks again to Google for having me!
Check Me Out in Food & Wine
I’m so excited to finally share with you images from the latest issue of Food & Wine in which I have an article called “Real Heroes Don’t Tweet.” The article’s about following my food heroes on Twitter and how it’s changed my perception of them from untouchable gods and goddesses to just ordinary, everyday people. What’s funny is that Twitter played a prominent role in this article happening in the first place: Dana Cowin (editor-in-chief of Food and Wine) ReTweeted something I wrote, I thanked her and we made a date to meet for lunch. It was at lunch (at a place called Junoon) that I started talking about what I liked and what I didn’t like about Twitter and that’s when Dana suggested I write this article. So get thee to a grocery store to buy a copy and let me know what you think! Oh, and as far as that most memorable New Year’s Eve dinner that Molly made? You can read about that here.
The Day I Was On The Cooking Channel And Didn’t Know It
This morning I received an e-mail from Brad Parsons (author of an awesome new book about bitters called, appropriately enough, Bitters) that said the following: “I was watching the Suzanne Goin (who I know you adore) special on Food Network (or Cooking Channel?) last night and they had some b-roll of the Hollywood Farmers’ Market in the beginning and I swear there was a shot of you (or your doppelganger) in the beginning browsing the stalls. Same haircut, glasses, plaid shirt, canvas jacket. I’m not sure if you were already in LA when they filmed this or if it’s just an illusion, but wanted to let you know in case you haven’t seen it.”
Reasons To Roast A Chicken
My latest piece is up on Huffington Post, “Reasons To Roast A Chicken.” If you’re not roasting a chicken every week, I hope this will change your mind.
Let Them Eat Cake
Here’s my second piece for The Huffington Post (click here); it’s about junk food and why feeding it to your kids is ok, in moderation.
10 Things That You’re Doing Wrong At Restaurants
I just wrote my first piece for Huffington Post—10 Things That You’re Doing Wrong At Restaurants—and you can read it by clicking here. If you like it, make sure to “like” it on Facebook and Twitter and all those other places that you can like something.
The “It Gets Better” Book
I just received an amazing e-mail from Dan Savage asking me if he could publish my “It Gets Better” post in the official “It Gets Better” book which’ll be published by Penguin in 2011. Of course I said “yes” and I’m beyond honored; apparently the book will also feature essays from David Sedaris, Michael Cunningham and President Obama. To read my original post, you can do so here.
