The Taste Test: Honey

Ok, folks, time for another Taste Test. I know some of you are wary of the unscientific nature of this project, but science was never the intention. Think of it more like hanging out with me in my kitchen as I taste stuff. And this week we’re tasting honey: clover honeys from Brazil, New Jersey and the Union Square farmer’s market. Which will I like the best? Click “play” and find out.

Previous Taste Tests: Water, Eggs, Chocolate, Chardonnay, Peanut Butter.

The Taste Test: Water

Remember the movie “Twister”? Well I’m about to follow a bunch of storm chasers (a.k.a. Craig’s film school friends) to Cape Cod for Labor Day weekend and we’re going to get very, very wet. (In case you haven’t heard, there’s a hurricane blowing that way.)

In the spirit, then, of wetness here’s my latest “Taste Test” for In it, I do a blind taste test and compare tap water, filtered water and bottled water. What kind of water do you drink the most at home? We’re filtered water people ourselves. I may go pour some on my head in preparation for the weekend; have a great Labor Day!

Previous Taste Tests: Eggs, Chocolate, Chardonnay, Peanut Butter.

The Taste Test: Eggs

With the salmonella outbreak forcing everyone to reconsider where and how they buy their eggs these days, this week’s “Taste Test” (my show on involves a simple query: which eggs taste better, conventional, free-range or free-range organic? My methods may be unscientific (and note: I’m paying attention to your comments for my next batch of episodes) but at least you get to spend some time with me as I sample some eggs. What kind of eggs do you buy weekly? I’m heading to the farmer’s market today to buy mine, just to be on the safe side. P.S. If you like this show, head over to food2 and let them know.

The Taste Test: Peanut Butter

I’m glad so many of you have been enjoying my Food2 show, “The Taste Test.” This week’s episode concentrates on peanut butter; something we all love, but few of us examine closely. For this episode I sampled a conventional peanut butter, a natural peanut butter and an organic peanut butter. The results are rather, well, pronounced. I hope I don’t offend anyone who grew up in a health food store! What kind of peanut butter do you prefer? Let me know in the comments.

Previous Episodes: Chocolate, Chardonnay.

The Taste Test: Chocolate

Above you’ll see the first video in my latest video series for I got the idea for this show while reading Kim Severson’s book “Spoon Fed.” On pg. 49 she writes, “To understand good chocolate, you have to know bad chocolate, and you should experience them side by side. It’s a method that has helped me through the years, whether I am tasting water, salt, milk, ground beef or any other food that might not seem to have much variation.”

And thus the idea for this show: a show where I taste three foods (all of the same kind) side-by-side to compare and contrast them. The above episode features chocolate (I can’t tell you the brands yet, but I may be able to in the comments once approved by F.N.) Future episodes include salt, peanut butter, Chardonnay, honey, and 20 other exciting topics. If you have ideas for taste tests you’d like me to try, let me know in the comments!
