Workout Journal, Day 9 (Vicki’s divorce.)

There’s not much too report from the gym today. I cooked all morning (as you saw on my stimulating web show) and then ran on the treadmill for 40 minutes. While this was happening, I watched an episode of “The Real Housewives of Orange County.” I’m an east coast housewives kind of guy. While the housewives of New York and New Jersey are all distinct characters, the houeswives of Orange County are indistinguishable. They’re all blonde, big-boobed, and totally devoid of personality. They’re Stepford Wives minus the intrigue. On the episode I watched today, one of the indistinguishable wives was telling a chef what she wanted at her dinner party. “I know foie gras is a delicatessen in France,” she said. Funny, yes. But it was all downhill from there.

The main thrust of the episode concerned Vicki’s divorce. Vicki is the only one that kind of stands out because she has a business and she’s obsessed with working. On previous episodes, she misses friends’ parties and events and important life moments because work means everything to her. I read that as: making money means everything to her.

And waddya know, someone who puts money before friendship is now having marital problems! She hasn’t had sex with her husband in two years. She’s trying to pray the love back into the marriage but it’s not working. Divorce is on the horizon.

I wish I could say I found all of this fascinating, but as I ran there on the treadmill I had absolutely no pity for this woman. It’s all spelled out right there in front of her but she’s totally blind to it. Those who put money before human relationships are bound to suffer. Money goes away; quality people don’t.

As for my workout, I think I need to up my treadmill game. As sweaty as I am after doing the interval training, I still feel like I could be doing more. I’ll talk to Danny about that tomorrow!
