Cheeseburger Next To Paradise! 1
As I was browsing the aisles at the grocery store looking for something cheap to make, I came across the ground beef section. I found a good deal on the 85/15 ground beef, so I decided to buy a pound or so. Tonight on the menu: cheeseburgers. Simple. How complicated can a good ole burger be? A few spices, some cheese, produce, and a few condiments…BAM! You’ve got yourself an American classic! Ok let me go measure out some spices and make you my recipe for “What Is Cooking Now?” <–shameless plug! Recipe follows:

A slice of culinary heaven or I hope so, at-least. 1
I believe, Alton brown said it best that if we are to taste a “real” pizza then, we must take back the reins of control from those “delivery chains” that have squandered away “taste” and “quality” for a 30 minute delivery clause and turn to our very own kitchens to claim a piece of that oooey gooey cheesy goodness that we have taken for granted.

Sweet Treat with Carrots! 1
Don’t you just love Bugs Bunny for his famous line, “What’s up Doc?” And if you’ve seen the show, you know that he loves carrots. He will do anything for a bite of his carrot. Well, I always wondered how he would react to carrot halwa. Halwa is a type of Indian sweet or dessert. This type of halwa is made with simple ingredients; the main ingredient being carrots. I bet he would love a bowl of it. In fact, I can just imagine him savoring every last morsel of the halwa and then breaking out into a Bollywood song and dance.
Well, while I ponder about that, why don’t you give this recipe a try. It’s a whole new way to enjoy your favorite vegetable.

Crunchy Cashews 1
One of my fondest memories of hanging out in New York City, included buying roasted cashews from the street vendors; especially during wintertime. The toasty nuts helped me stay warm while walking around. One fine day, I brought some of the nuts home for my mom to try. She told me that the nuts reminded her of another recipe that was handed down to her from her relatives. She said her relatives make it for all their parties.
I immediately pulled out my handy recipe book and asked her to recite the ingredients and directions so that we could re-create it. I am always an eager participant in all foodie adventures. the recipe seemed quick and easy as long as you have all the ingredients. These battered nuts are so good that “once you pop, you just can’t stop”.
Next time you have game night, try something new and fun.

A Real Crunchy Treat

A Real Crunchy Treat 1
Have you ever seen the movie “The Namesake” with Kal Penn? There’s a scene in the movie where the newly married Ashima Ganguli looks at her plain bowl of corn flakes and decides to spice it up a bit. I’m not sure if it’s because it was tasteless or because she was pregnant but I think her hormones made her do it. She chops up some onions and adds some masala to the cereal. I think it reminded her of the cooking back home in India.
Every time my mom makes her famous Corn Flakes mixture, I get reminded of the movie. The snack is so simple and easy that anyone can make it and enjoy.

Naan Pizza

Naan Pizza 1
You know shoveling for 2 hours really works up your appetite. Instead of ordering out, we decided to make something quick for dinner and relax for the rest of the night. My mom being the culinary genius, came up with the idea of making pizzas with naan. I loved it because we can have personalized pizzas and get creative with our toppings. The best part is that it’s healthy. We each made our own, poured ourselves some juice, and watched a movie.
I think naan pizzas are great for parties of all sizes and fun to make with the kids. Everyone’s happy!
