The Clean Plate Club, Episode #6: Jim Cantiello, Kat Odell

Before I tell you all about this week’s Clean Plate Club guests, I need to tell you something important: this week’s episode features a voicemail from Martha Stewart. I repeat: towards the end, you get to hear an actual voicemail from Martha Stewart.

Ok, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, let me introduce you to Jim Cantiello and Kat Odell (though I think you may already know them). Jim is the charismatic MTV host–he tells great stories about his time there in the podcast–who is now Co-Executive Producer for The X Factor USA’s website; Kat is the editor of Eater LA and the star of the new Bravo show Eat, Drink, Love. That’s right: I cooked dinner for a Bravolebrity.

Conversation starts with Kat’s account of appearing on reality TV, her feelings about it and how it’s affected her life since debuting a few weeks ago. If you don’t know the show, here’s the trailer:

Then, after a dinner of fig and prosciutto salad, spicy pork stew with polenta, and those profiteroles I just blogged about (and don’t worry, I’ll blog the other stuff soon), we talked VMAs, Taylor Swift (don’t say a bad word about Taylor Swift to Jim), how to stay skinny while eating whatever you want and then–the crowning moment–Jim’s encounter with Martha Stewart.

If you haven’t seen these videos, you’re in for a treat. Jim and our friend Brendan went drinking with Martha Stewart in Brooklyn. The resulting video is HILARIOUS (skip the intro):

The follow-up involves Martha taking Jim and Brendan to Daniel, the tony restaurant on New York’s Upper East Side. (This one’s harder to embed, so I’ll link to it here.)

How did this come about? What was it really like hanging out with Martha? It doesn’t stop there, though: Jim and Brendan got invited to Martha’s Christmas party. What gift do you bring to Martha Stewart’s Christmas Party? You’ll have to listen to the podcast to find out.

Thanks, Jim and Kat, for being such great guests! The episode is also available in iTunes if you want to listen to it at the gym or in your car. (I say that every week, but that’s where I listen to podcasts, so I want you to know you can do that).

Happy listening!

  1. I enjoyed this podcast immensely!!!!!!!!!!!! The Clean Plate Club is rapidly rising to the top of my podcast list. I’ve retold almost all the stories from this podcast multiple times. I see Martha Steward in a completely new light. Also, I agree with Craig about processed food being one of the major factors contributing to obesity in America. Yes, butter/bone marrow/bacon/pork belly rich food is fattening, but I don’t think it is a driving factor for why we are so fat as Americans. Any-who, I could have listened to another hour of this dinner party conversation.

  2. Food is the New Rock by Zach Brooks is my favorite food podcast. Otherwise, I mostly listen to non-food podcasts: WTF with Marc Maron, Here’s the Thing with Alec Baldwin and This American Life.
